Vintage (1971) Diplomacy red box board game manufactured by quality publisher Waddingtons/House of Games in Canada. This is the Canadian bilingual (English/French) edition of the game. Having said that, while the box and rules are in English and French, the game board itself - this HUGE! map - is only in English. This is the case for many Canadian so-called "bilingual" games where the box and rules/instructions are in both languages, but the board is English only. So, my apologies to Québec, but with some of these older games, this is just how they were published with the boards tending to be in English language only.

Condition: In EXCELLENT! condition and 100% complete with original instructions. Box shows signs of shelf wear and has a broken side panel. All pieces are in clean and unbroken condition.
Game overview: Taglined "The exciting game of international intrigue". A classic game of pure negotiation. In Diplomacy, players represent one of the seven (7) "Great Powers of Europe" (Great Britain, France, Austria-Hungry, Germany, Italy, Russia or Turkey) in the years prior to World War I. Play begins in the Spring of 1901, and players make both Spring and Autumn moves each year. There are only two kinds of military units: armies and fleets. On any given turn, each of your military units has limited options: they can move into an adjoining territory, support an allied unit in an attack on an adjoining territory, support an allied unit in defending an adjoining territory, or hold their position. Players instruct each of their units by writing a set of "orders." The outcome of each turn is determined by the rules of the game. There are no dice rolls or other elements of chance. With its incredibly simplistic movement mechanics fused to a significant negotiation element, this system is highly respected by many a gamer as it involves the majority of skill and thought to succeed (win) rather than relying on elements of luck (such as dice and wild cards!). It was not unheard of in my house for a game of Diplomacy to be started on a Friday night after school and completed on a Sunday afternoon, before Sunday dinner and mum wanted the table! It took the dining room table to hold this game board, all of us and the parts and papers we spread out to play it! Fantastic game of real skill that will test your mental and gaming abilities!
